Beto's Bio

Alberto “Beto Divino” Rivas, an ubiquitous presence in Oklahoma, has always been driven by his passion for people. As a Two-Spirit First American Citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, descendant of the Seminole and Muscogee Creek Nations, and proud Chicano, Beto has left an indelible mark on both local and statewide efforts for over seventeen years, channeling his energy into diverse initiatives spanning the realms of the arts, mental health, and the nonprofit sector.

As a suicide survivor, Beto transforms personal adversity with mental health illness and recovery into a beacon of hope and catalyst for change. His narrative, rich with humanity, serves as a source of inspiration, underscoring his belief that equity, equality, and mental health acceptance are achievable through collective effort toward a shared objective—a quality of life for all and with the mindset of life for the sake of life. Over the years, Beto's contagious sense of purpose manifests in his multifaceted roles as a public speaker, consultant, panelist, board member, writer, activist, and volunteer.

For his efforts, Beto has been recognized with numerous accolades from local and state officials, professional groups, and media outlets, most recently receiving a Oklahoma Governor's Arts Award for Community Service, in 2021.

Beto currently serves as the National 988 Crisis Training Coordinator for HeartLine INC. where he trains are prepares employees both new and seasoned to assist those in crisis through 988 Calls, Chats and Texts, Disaster Distress Helpline, Oklahoma ReachOut, Youth Crisis Mobile Response, 988 Backup, 988 Warmline Oklahoma, and 211.

Outside of Beto's professional career, he actively serves within his role as a Trustee for the Oscar Jacobson Foundation, which manages the Jacobson House Native Art Center in Norman, Oklahoma where they help to bring people together by promoting and celebrating Native American art and culture.
